Community Fusion is a day program for adults with intellectual disabilities that is all about community engagement.
Participants enjoy outings, go on picnics, explore area parks, enjoy a bite to eat, and help their neighbors by completing volunteer projects.
How it works
There are program sites in Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, and Shermans Dale. But Community Fusion’s real work takes place in the community.
Small groups are in the community daily. Program ratio requires one staff for every three participants. Each site serves a maximum of 12 people. Staff are creative and energetic.
If participants stay at the site, they enjoy different activities. Several use tablets or computers to play games and check e-mail. Others play cards and board games, make crafts, and socialize with peers. Some participants want to be more independent and are interested in learning laundry, cooking, and baking skills.
Enriching the community
Participants enjoy helping their community and volunteer at different non-profits. They sort food at local food banks, visit residents at nursing homes, and complete light cleaning jobs.
